How do I access my website files?

You can access your website files using the File Manager in cPanel or via an FTP client such as FileZilla. Both methods allow you to upload, edit and manage your files directly on the server.

Methods for Accessing Website Files

Website files are stored in the public_html directory of your hosting account. Depending on whether you are making quick line edits or transferring large directories, you can choose between two main methods:

Method 1: cPanel File Manager (Web Browser)

File Manager is ideal for immediate file inspection, extraction of zip archives, and inline text editing without installing external software.

  • Log in to cPanel and open File Manager under the Files section.
  • Double-click public_html to open the root web directory.
  • Use the top toolbar to Upload, Download, Edit, or Compress files and folders.

Method 2: FTP / SFTP Client (FileZilla, Cyberduck)

For uploading large asset libraries, bulk backups, or entire website codebases, an FTP client provides robust resume handling and queue management.

  • Download and open FileZilla or your preferred FTP client.
  • Set Host to your server hostname or domain IP, Port to 21 (or 22 for SFTP if enabled).
  • Enter your FTP username and password created under cPanel > FTP Accounts.
  • Connect and drag files directly between your local computer and the remote public_html folder.
